ON THE COVER: Well Shiver my timbers and tickle my genitalia with a cold ostrich plume - the legendary Capester Billy "The Kid" Riley has finally made the cover of the Rat!!!  Yup, it's taken a while but we gotta give this devil of the over-70 set his due.  He might be the best over-70 athlete in the whole damn world.  And don't give me any of this Ed Whitlock stuff, either.  Maybe Canadian Eddie could outrun Bill at 26, but poor craggy Eddie looks awful at the end of a race he could haunt an ab
andoned house on Halloween (plus, he's not a Rat subscriber).  Riley is not only old and fast, but so youthful of both visage and corpus that he can still pick up younger women at the post-race bar scenes!!!  This is incredible.  How many 71 year old guys can make that statement? None. damnit. None. nada. zilch.  Lets go to the facts.  The BAA/CCAC'er out of sandy Centerville (except in the winter when he goes to Florida to train for the Lutz 5K with Chuck Keating et al) recently set an age record by 15 minutes at Mount Washington  (1:35:54) and is a member of both the CCAC and NE65 Running Club Halls of Fame.  He's run 40 marathons including 21 Bostons with a 2:50 best.  He was a USAT(?)F(?) Runner of the Year in 1997 and competed in the Hawaii Ironman four times, winning his age group in every instance.  Man, I'm getting tired typing this stuff.  Momma.  Want more? The Kid also holds his age division CR at the traditionally brutal  Utica (NY) Boilermaker 15K and is completely undefeated at 70+ as of this writing.  In most local races he also beats the 60+ winner- and sometimes the 50+ winner.  We're done here.  He "da man"
