ON THE COVER: Most male runners are saddled with grouchy spouses who would rather we stayed home on weekends to rake leaves or take the stupid cat to the vet. Pictured on this HSR cover is TEAM ORNI of Ashburnham, Mass. and the CMS...and I really do mean T-E-A-M. Peter owes much, if not all, of his considerable racing success to Nancy who has selflessly aided and abetted his running career through thick, thin and all intermediate viscosities. The thick was the year Peter came within a frog's prepuce of winning the 1994 - 95 Grand Pricks Series from Dick Fedion (he missed a race to attend his son's graduation, such a lack of priorities). The thin (or one of them) came after getting wiped out at the Clarence DeMar Marathon a few years later. How bad was it? Peter beat me by one hour, but was still prostrate and unresponsive on a bench by the finish line when I arrived in a heap. And who was attending to his every need? Nancy, of course. And then there was the time when a white-as-a-KKK-sheet Peter had to be lugged home semi-comatose from the old Nute Ridge 13.1 in N.H? Who did the lugging? Nancy, of course, and with a smile. Ah, too bad she wasn't around for that wild Fitchburg High School party back in 1960 or so when poor Peter (a tough landscaper by trade who has been known to race with broken ribs) got into a brawl and was slugged with a 2X4 by a high-spirited fellow party-goer. Ah, those were the days at good old FHS. So, let's hail Team Orni - the perfect running marriage.
